  • When should I pump my septic tank?

When the scum & sludge reach 30% or greater of the septic tanks capacity. We usually recommend pumping every 3 - 5 years, although this really depends on household size and usage.

  • What is a mainline?

This is where everything from the house connects to the septic tank. This is usually the only pipe connecting your house to your septic tank.

  • What is a septic tank?

This is where everything ends up! The intent is to hold all the solids here and allow the liquid, or effluent, to leave the tank.

  • What is a drain field?

Drain-fields are designed to dispose of effluent and continue composting. You do not want solid material to end up in your drain-field.

  • Why is my septic alarm going off?

The purpose of a septic alarm is to warn you of a potential problem. There are a number of reasons why your alarm might sound. The most common reason is too much water in the pump tank causing the high water level alarm to sound. This could be caused by a running toilet or leaky fixture in the house or by ground water getting into the tank somehow. Timers can get tripped up with too much water getting in the tank too quickly. While this is just the most common reason we see, there could be an electrical, float, or pump issue causing the septic alarm to sound.
